Nappy Cluster
In Nappy Cluster, the 'unshape' is that of the 'missing' baby. Children grow out of nappies, but the shape/non-shape [hollow, discarded, useless] residual waste remains. I am always distressed by the image in my mind of mountains of discarded nappies...where do they all go? The work, a chandelier of resin cast nappies, looks into this notion of the damaging material by-product of our existence as humans, as well as our ongoing accumulative desire for the aesthetic. There is a latent irony to the piece, presenting as it does the undesirable shape of a disposable nappy as something desirable, useful - a permanent fixture.
